In order to document a description of Victor’s natural surroundings, the town’s Conservation Board is creating a Natural Resource Inventory.

The NRI identifies and evaluates the Town’s streams, forests, and glacial and other natural features. The board members have been pouring over old documents, maps and local stories for the past two years. As of December 2011 , the Board completed a draft of NRI Phase I, complete with photos and maps. It is posted on www.victorny.org.

NRI Phase II is the Inventory’ s field study component; the purpose is to locate, identify and evaluate natural resources. As experts walk the land, they hope to find answers to the following questions: Does a stream support fish and other wildlife? Are there places where streams, wetlands and forests come together? Is the land overrun with invasive plants? This is where residents can help by giving permission for board members to walk their property to identify these natural resources.

For more information, contact Leslie VanAken, Conservation Board secretary, at (585)742-5032 or lvanaken@town-victor-ny.us.
