 Hats, horses, carriages, history, travel, dogs, family and friends — these are just a few of the things that put a smile on Denett Marcia Pimkowski’s face. Held in high esteem and with deep affection by colleagues and friends, Mrs. Pimkowski finally lost her courageous and zealous eight-year battle with cancer on Dec. 27, 2011, at the age of 56.

Time stood still while history moved last Wednesday in Farmington. For over three hours traffic was halted, power lines were rerouted, and several hundred people stood and watched in awe as the stately 1816 Quaker Meetinghouse was guided slowly across the intersection of County Road 8 and Sheldon Road.

Victor Hoops Unleashed to kick off basketball season

Kicking off the 2011-2012 basketball season, Victor Hoops Unleashed will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, from 7-9 p.m. in the senior high gym. Leading off with a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. in the senior high cafe, the night will feature free contests and prizes, and a chance to meet the team, as well as travel and recreation players. The cost for dinner is $7 for adults and $5 for children 10 years and under.

The Victor Boys Basketball hosts chicken barbecue

The Victor Boys Basketball program will be the beneficiary of a chicken barbecue to be held at Victor Village Inn on Friday, Nov. 4, from 5-7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased for $8 from any Victor basketball player or coach, at Victor Village Inn, or by visiting victorballboysbasketball.com. Both eat-in and take-out options are available.

Farmington winter parking laws in effect

The town of Farmington winter no parking law will  be in effect between November 1 and April 1. During that period residents are prohibited from parking any vehicle on any county or town highway, including streets dedicated to the Town of Farmington within subdivisions. Abiding by this law will assist the highway department in the snow removal process.

Victor sub shop nixed in court

A judge has ruled in favor of the village of Victor in a lawsuit filed by the developers of Mead Square Commons regarding the village’s code prohibiting “fast food” restaurants in the central historic district.

Kevin and Anita Bruckner, developers of the proposed multi-use facility at 49 Main St. in Victor, had hoped to include a Subway franchise among the retailers in their new space. Their lawsuit claimed the village code was unlawful.

Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Rochester to aid suicide prevention

The Western New York Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host, in Rochester, one of 250 “Out of the Darkness Community Walks” nationwide. Raising millions of dollars for suicide prevention programs and research, these walks are also about raising awareness, building hope, and shedding light on the topic of suicide, which is often kept in the darkness.

H.S. FOOTBALL: 5 Games To See (Week 3)

Nineteen teams enter Week 3 still searching for their first victory of the season, and that dream will come true for at least two teams as there are two games featuring four winless squads. On the other side of the coin, 18 others will try to keep their undefeated season alive, but three will exit with their first loss since there are three games featuring six undefeated squads.

Both Pittsford (2-0) and Spencerport (1-1) host their own Homecoming games this weekend, and it is senior night for Lyons (2-0).

Monday Morning QB: Return of the Mack

In fact, just nine days before the first day of practice, “I’m thinking no” was Mack’s reply when asked if he’d be wearing cherry-and-gray this autumn.

Doubt existed for the simple reason that the last time Mack suited up with the Braves he exited Evans Field in the back of an ambulance. For the second-time in his young life, the then-junior team captain had endured a second concussion in a riveting 43-42 overtime victory, coincidentally, on Sept. 11.

Farmington Town Board reticent to launch swap shop

Farmington residents interested in launching a community-wide, volunteer-driven Swap Shop appeared before the town board on July 26 to present their ideas. It was a harder sell than they may have expected.
