The following support and education groups will be offered throughout August in Canandaigua and Victor by Thompson Health.
Better Breathers Club
Thompson Health’s Better Breathers Club will meet on Friday, Aug. 10, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Constellation Center for Health and Healing, located on the north side of the main Thompson Health campus at 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua.
This month, hear a round table discussion called “Air It Out: Ask, Share, Live with Pulmonary Disease,” presented by Thompson’s Manager of Cardiopulmonary Services, Marie Rusaw, RRT. The group will meet in the Associate Conference Room just off the main lobby of the Constellation Center.
Sponsored by the Respiratory Therapy Department at F.F. Thompson Hospital, this group helps individuals with lung disease or breathing difficulties improve their quality of life through discussions, education and behavioral modifications. There is no cost to attend.

Infant loss support group
The Resolve Through Sharing (RTS) Parent Support Group will meet Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua.
This monthly support group is for parents who have experienced the loss of a baby during pregnancy, at birth or shortly after birth. The group is facilitated by Cris Crawford, RN, RTS bereavement coordinator for Thompson Health’s Birthing Center.

Diabetes support group
The Diabetes Support Group will meet Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the M. M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua. Scheduled this month is a discussion of hypoglycemia and driving.
This group is for people with Type 2 diabetes and their families. The goal is to provide those living with diabetes opportunities for learning, sharing and support. Jane Hallstead, RN, MSN, facilitates the group. This month, there will be an open discussion about diabetes.

Eastview Mall Walkers Club
Join Thompson Health’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department for its Mall Walkers Club Tuesdays, Aug. 14 and 28, at Eastview Mall, 7979 Pittsford-Victor Road (Route 96), Victor.
The mall opens to walkers at 7 a.m. Healthy heart experts will be available to take blood pressures and answer questions from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the food court on each of these dates. No RSVP is required and there is no charge for this program. Call (585) 396-6253 for more information.

Thompson Health’s Breast Cancer Support Group will meet Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua. Come meet other women who are also facing a breast cancer diagnosis.
This group, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, raises awareness while supporting and educating women with breast cancer. Support persons and new members are welcome. Jennifer Klein, a physical therapist and spiritual caregiver, facilitates the group.

Sleep Solutions support group
The Sleep Solutions Support Group will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Thompson Health Sleep Disorders Center, located across the street from the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center at 229 Parrish St., Canandaigua.
This group provides education, support and tools to help individuals manage their sleep apnea. Participants can share their experiences and ask questions in a safe, confidential environment.

Traumatic brain injury support group
The Traumatic Brain Injury Support Group will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua.
This group is open to individuals who have experienced a traumatic brain injury, their loved ones and anyone who is interested in learning more about life with traumatic brain injury. There is no charge to attend.

Bereavement support group
The Bereavement Support Group will meet Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Sands Cancer Center, 360 Parrish St., Canandaigua.
This group is open to anyone who has experienced a loss due to death, and meetings are open for sharing and discussion. Sue Underhill, RN, advanced illness care coordinator for the VA Medical Center, and Susan Bonanni, social worker and coordinator of Thompson Health’s Sands Cancer Center, facilitate the group. First-time moms group
Thompson Health’s First Time Around Group will meet Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish Street, Canandaigua.
This monthly support gathering is for first-time mothers and their babies. It offers both social and educational opportunities and is open to all women, regardless of where their babies were born. Carrie Hartman, RN, BSN, and Jan Thompson, RNC, certified lactation consultant, will be available to answer questions about breastfeeding and parenting.

Operation Kids
Operation Kids will be held Tuesdays, Aug. 14 and 28, from 7 to 7:45 p.m. at F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua.
This program is for families of children who will be undergoing surgery and is meant to ease any concerns they might have. It includes a tour of the surgical care center, operating room and post-anesthesia care unit, followed by a question/answer session. Children are treated to a coloring book depicting hospital scenes to encourage more communication about the upcoming surgery.
