An upcoming bus trip organized by the town of Farmington Recreation Department will include a guided tour of the “Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania.”

The department’s Adult Travel Club for folks 55 and up is now accepting reservations for the Wednesday, Oct. 10 trip to Wellsboro, Pa. The deluxe Koning Day Tours motorcoach will depart Mertensia Park on Mertensia Road at 8 a.m. and return at about 8:30 p.m.

The cost of the trip is $70 for town of Farmington residents and $82 for all others. The price difference is because part of the funding is being offset by the town.

The price includes the tour of the canyon, which is 50 miles long and up to 1,000 feet deep. It is the highlight of the Endless Mountains area. Visitors will want to bring a camera.

The trip includes lunch at the Penn Wells Hotel with a choice of meal: Roast turkey, baked ham or baked haddock. Participants will also have time to shop in downtown Wellsboro and they’ll go an afternoon train excursion aboard the Tioga Central Railroad, passing fields and forests alongside the sparkling Crooked Creek and the shore of Hammond Lake.

A “fast food” dinner stop will be included on the journey back to Farmington.

All gratuities for the restaurant waitstaff, motorcoach driver and tour director are included in the cost of the trip.

Attendees may arrive early as the Lodge at Mertensia Park will be open at 7 a.m. and coffee and doughnuts will be served. The lodge is heated and has restrooms.

The deadline for payment and reservations is Sept. 28. Farmington residents may sign up now, however non-residents must wait until Sept. 10 to reserve a seat. Contact the Town Clerk’s Office at (315) 986-8100 or visit 1000 County Road 8 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Checks should be made payable to “Farmington Recreation.”
