I read the Your View “Rants” column (June 7 issue) in Fairport-ER Post today. While I totally agree that something must be changed and compromise is needed, I am tired of reading about Social Security and Medicare being “entitlement programs.” I am retired after working for more than 60 years and taking Social Security out of my wages. I paid for my retirement and yes, I am entitled to it because I contributed to it. And if our politicians had not spent it on other “social” programs for those not working, it might not be going broke!
Medicaid has become an entitled program by continuing to support those who milk the system and do not contribute. Please do not lump all us hardworking retirees in there also. The only entitled people on Social Security are those who get Social Security Disability and are not really disabled — again, milking the system dry for all of us. Focus your energy in the right place, please.
