In Brighton we are fortunate to have the means to achieve an extra measure of peace of mind by having our own town police department. Dedicated and rapid response to safety and/or criminal concerns is worth the extra expense.
But, there seems to be an abuse of these community resources at the abortion clinic site on Clinton Avenue, next to Loughman’s Plaza.
The site, like every other abortion clinic in the country, is picketed and is protested by concerned citizens who think it is wrong to kill unborn children in their community.
Many of these abortion places pay for their own security guards. In addition, our police rarely park in the abortionist’s parking lot, but block access to medical facilities next door.
Is an overabundance of police cars there because a protest sign touches the ground or a pro-lifer speaks through a small bullhorn? I recently was part of a rally at the Federal Building with Move to Amend, a group trying to expand the free speech of voters by limiting corporate power. Sound amplification was allowed and posters were on the ground. Why is free speech allowed by the city and by the federal government and not by the town?
When this clinic was built, Brighton Residents Against Violence (BRAVE) made known to the town the inordinate number of unnecessary calls by the abortionist when he was located in another location. No violence happened then by protesters, and no violence happens now. The only violence is what the abortionist is doing on the inside of his building.
