On June 16, with warm, sunny weather, the 20th annual Kiwanis Club of Greece and the town of Greece Community Center Fishing Derby for Youth with Special Needs took place. In attendance were 164 people, which included 48 fishing supported by 43 fishing guides. Plenty of fish were caught, and everyone enjoyed a variety of snacks and a pizza party lunch. Each youth who participated received a 2012 specially designed fishing T-shirt, a fishing medal with ribbon, a joint Certificate of Recognition presented by New York State Sen. Joe Robach and Assemblyman Bill Reilich, and a Certificate of Participation presented by Greece Supervisor John Auberger.
The Greece Kiwanis Club and the town of Greece Community Center staff would like to take this opportunity to thank the following businesses, groups and individuals for either their donation or discount and for their dedication and loyal support: Sen. Joe Robach and Assemblyman William Reilich for their support and joint certificate; Supervisor John Auberger for his support and certificate; Morrie Richardson, owner of Latta Road Nursing Home; Carmine’s Family Restaurant on Maiden Lane for ongoing support and providing the pizza; Wegmans Food Inc. at Latta Road and Long Pond for drinks, snacks, wipes and ice; McDonald’s at Latta Road/Long Pond for juice boxes and coffee; Faber Homes for donating the specially designed fishing derby T-shirts; Kiwanis member Mary Tremiti for donating the fishing derby medals and ribbons; Sign Impressions Inc. on West Ridge Road for discount on T-shirts and medals; Jay-Ve Tackle on Seneca Avenue for fishing poles and bait; and Boy Scout Troop 197 for coordinating parking, sign-in, setup, cleanup and providing general help.
They also would like to thank the many community volunteers who participated and especially Boy Scout Troop 197 and the fishing guides. The guides certainly made fishing a very exciting and successful experience. The Scouts provided their service in a variety of ways that made for a very enjoyable and safe event for the participating youth with special needs and their families.
