TOM WILLARD: Smith's election analysis is unbelievable

Does Curt Smith own your newspaper? That's the only reason I can think of for you to give him so much space to spout off so much nonsense.

I found his recent column, "Romney loss a defeat for America," to be extremely insulting and delusional. President Obama won a decisive victory in the election, winning every state considered a toss-up and garnering support across a wide spectrum of the country.

I realize that Mr. Smith is a member of Mitt Romney's key support group — tired old white men clinging to the past — but the stuff he said is simply unbelievable.

He blames President Obama for the death of a U.S. Ambassador while turning a blind eye to the thousands of young men and women who died in Iraq in a war started by George W. Bush to get even with Saddam Hussein for plotting to kill his father.

He criticizes the president for not revealing college records from 30 years ago while ignoring the much more important issue, Romney's refusal to disclose his tax returns.

He notes with incredulity that 58 percent in a Fox poll blamed the economy on W., but that is hardly debatable. The economy tanked in 2008 before President Obama took office, with the primary causes being lax oversight of the financial industry and two wars that W. put on the nation's credit card. We've been fighting our way out of that Bush-made pit ever since.

And after four years of the Obama presidency and six years of the Romney campaign, can anyone seriously think that Hurricane Sandy had anything to do with the election results? Smith says that without Chris Christie's positive remarks about Obama, "Romney would have won." Are you kidding me???

He points to a 6-point lead in a Gallup poll that was widely discredited and way out of sync with all the other polls.

He calls Romney "more gracious than Obama," whereas in reality Romney is one of the sorest losers to ever come down the pike. Romney blames his loss on "gifts" given by Obama but doesn't take any responsibility for the gifts he gave the opposition by being such a terrible candidate. (Remember "I don't care about half of the American people"?)

President Obama won the election because he cares about all Americans. Mitt Romney lost because he only cares about rich people like himself.
