The two people charged in the death of a 3-year-old Greece girl appeared in court on Wednesday.

Brook Stagles died at the hospital last month after she was brought there unresponsive. A medical examiner ruled she suffered blunt force trauma to her stomach. Brook's father, Michael Stagles, is charged with criminally negligent homicide. His girlfriend, Erica Bell, is charged with murder.

"This case is a criminal case that is proceeding against individuals that we feel are responsible for causing Brook's death and we feel that we'll be able to prove that beyond a reasonable doubt," says Assistant District Attorney Sara VanStrydonck.

On Wednesday, a judge set dates for Stagles and Bell's trial. Jury selection will begin on May 15. The next time they will be in court is in February for motions.
