The cast of the Wednesday night's live television musical includes big names like Jennifer Hudson and Kristin Chenoweth. And dancing alongside of those big names will be a dancer from Penfield: Ricky Schroeder.

A Penfield native was among the cast performing in "Hairspray Live" on Wednesday.

Hairspray was a cult classic movie that became a Tony Award-winning Broadway show and then a movie musical.

The cast of the live television musical includes big names like Jennifer Hudson and Kristin Chenoweth. And dancing alongside of those big names will be a dancer from Penfield: Ricky Schroeder.

News10NBCcaught up with Schroder via Skype Thursday in Los Angeles as he was preparing for the performance. Schroeder says he's been doing musicals since the fourth grade, but this is surreal to him.

He says backstage is absolutely hectic. There are about 550 people working on, so people are literally running around bumping into each other. He says set changes are really crazy; there's one scene that he only has 50 seconds to hop on a golf cart and get from one location, down the street to another before he's back on-air.

Ricky Schroeder says, "It almost doesn't feel real because I know there's going to be millions of people watching -- like I know that but when you can't see them, when it's just a camera, you're looking at it doesn't really feel like that.

"It probably won't be until I watch it tomorrow and be like oh, this was on TV. But it's really exciting."

Now, for those of you who aren't familiar with Hairspray, it's a story of acceptance and diversity. Schroeder was part of "The Nicest Kids in Town" group. He plays the character "Sketch" and of course we wish him all the best of luck.
