Get ready: Temps are heading into the single digits, growing colder this weekend and into early next week. The Polar Vortex will be swirling just north of the border a week from today.
Some seasonable cold and lake snow is moving into Rochester the next couple days.
However, a much colder air mass is looming north of the border. Temps across much of Canada are well below zero and this air mass will grow colder through the weekend into early next week. There is a building snowpack through a lot of Canada and the US as well and this helps to maintain the cold as it moves in our direction.
Finally, the jet stream pattern late next week will allow the brunt of the arctic chill to spill across the Great Lakes into Rochester and Western New York. Our old friend the Polar Vortex will be swirling just north of the border a week from today. Temps will drop into the single digits to near 0, or lower at night late next week, not far from record lows.
