VICTOR — At least 300 are expected to put on their walking shoes, running shoes or wheelchair gloves this Saturday for the second annual campus-wide Devil Dash 5K & Family Walk.

Nearly 200 runners and 100 walkers took part at last year’s fundraiser, which benefits the Victor Central School Educational Foundation, and specifically, the students of VCS. Foundation Vice President Mike Marro hopes to exceed those numbers this year at the Oct. 8 event, held from 9 a.m. to noon.

Runners, walkers, and people using wheelchairs can enjoy a morning of healthy exercise and fun while supporting the VCSEF, Marro said. Both the 5K Run and Family Fun Walk will start just outside of Corbit Field and circle clockwise around the campus. The 5K run will be two laps around campus, and the Family Fun Walk is one loop around campus. Both will finish on the track in front of the grandstands.

VCSEF board member Cam Maves said he's looking forward to the event in large part because it's fun, it's a healthy activity, and it's geared toward the whole family.

“Last year, we were able to help fund teacher grants with the proceeds," said Maves. "It's really exciting to have the community get together to help provide our students and teachers with better resources. We're very thankful for the support we receive.”

Online registration will remain open right up until the start of the race. Race day registration and packet pickup will take place at Corbit Field from 7:30 a.m. right up until the start of the race at 9 a.m. Registration and packet pickup is from 7:30 to 9 a.m., with a pre-race yoga and stretching class at 8:30 a.m. The 5K Run starts at 9 a.m., and the Family Fun Walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Post-race food and activities are from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and an awards ceremony is at 10:15 a.m.

Bikes, skateboards, scooters and pets are not allowed on the race course, Marro said.

Both the 5K and the Family Fun Walk will feature a gun start and chip finish, provided by Race Management Solutions.

5K registration is $30 and the Family Fun Walk is $10. For more information email victordevildash@gmail.com.
