A couple from Philadelphia who practice faith healing and don’t believe in medicine were charged with murder after a second young child of theirs died after not receiving medical care. Herbert and Catherine Schaible were on probation after a son died four years ago after not receiving treatment, and even though they were ordered to provide medical care to their children, another child died. "How many kids have to die before it becomes extreme indifference to human life?" First Assistant District Attorney Ed McCann said.

After a video went viral that showed Pope Francis seemingly performing an exorcism on a man, the Vatican responded by saying, “The Holy Father had no intention to perform any exorcism. Instead, as he frequently does for the sick and suffering persons who approach him, he simply meant to pray for a suffering person who was presented to him.” In the video, the pope took the hand of a man, a priest whispered something to the pope, who placed his hands on the man’s head, and the man begins convulsing for a moment.

Eight school districts pass new budgets

Residents in eight area school districts across the board passed new school budgets, bus propositions, and library propositions. Uncontested school board candidates in Bloomfield, Canandaigua, Marcus Whitman, Midlakes, Naples, and Victor were elected. And in contested races, Honeoye residents elected newcomer Nathan Van Bortel and incumbent Ide Marshall to fill two open seats on the school board. In Red Jacket, newcomers Eric Schaertl and Jennifer Speers won two open school board seats.

Schumer announces new tax benefits for Broadway shows

Today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer announced his plan to extend tax treatment afforded to film producers and music publishers to investors in live theatre. Schumer will introduce the STAGE Act of 2013, which aims to amend the Federal Tax Code and to promote financing in the often prohibitively risky enterprise of commercial stage production. Schumer noted that there are dozens of theatres throughout Upstate New York, like Proctors in Schenectady, Shea's Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, the Rochester Broadway Theatre League, Stanley Theatre in Utica and Broome County Forum Theatre that put on Broadway shows and live productions, and this bill would benefit the production companies that bring their shows to those theatres.

Medical examiner: 24 dead in Oklahoma twister

The state medical examiner's office has revised the death toll from a tornado in an Oklahoma City suburb to 24 people, including seven children.
