A Palmyra man was charged Sept. 5 with first-degree burglary after an alleged home invasion that had neighbors locked in their homes as police searched for the suspect.
New York State Police out the Lyons barracks arrested Beau R. Terwilliger, 25, late Wednesday afternoon. The arrest stems from an alleged home invasion that occurred early Tuesday morning, Sept. 4.
Around 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Terwilliger allegedly broke into a residence on Port Gibson Road in Palmyra with the intent to commit a crime, state police investigators said. When Terwilliger realized the homeowner was still in the home and was confronted by him, Terwilliger allegedly assaulted the 56-year-old man, causing injuries to his arm and head. Terwilliger then fled the home on foot heading south, troopers said.
While conducting a search for Terwilliger, police had roadblocks set up in the area, checking motorists and redirecting traffic. A command center was also set up on Hogback Hill Road following the incident Tuesday morning.
The homeowner was treated at the hospital for his injuries and later released.
Terwilliger was arraigned in Palmyra Town Court and sent to the Wayne County Jail without bail.
The state police were assisted by the Wayne and Ontario Sheriff's Departments, Wayne County Probation Department and the United States Border Patrol.
