While searching for a new event for the Victor Chamber of Commerce to host, President Mitch Donovan said he wanted to brew up something different.

“Golf tournaments have been done before,” Donovan said. “We wanted to capitalize on the home brewing that is taking place in the state.”

The result was the 2012 Food & Brew Festival, which took place Saturday at the Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack in Farmington. The event featured beer from three local breweries — Custom Brewcrafters in Honeoye Falls,  Roc Brewing Company in Rochester, and Ithaca Beer Company, in Ithaca.

Fred Armstrong of The Bluebell Hopyard was at the Brew Festival — he brought along some of his hops too. In fact, Armstrong said members of Bluebell recently sold some hops to Custom Brewcrafters for their Fresh Hop Harvest Ale, which should be available in October, said Jeff Harrington of Custom Brewcrafters. Harrington added that the brew will also include hops from Schmidt Farm in Farmington and from Washington state.

Other beer included a Country Pumpkin beer from the Ithaca Beer Company and a Dark Mile beer from Roc Brewing Company.

Community and Chamber members at the event also had some food to pair with their beverages. There was finger foods, like chicken wings, and desserts, such as the Guinness chocolate cake with Baileys cream chesse frosting. Food was provided by the casino.

Music was provided by Soul Express — a two-person spin-off from Orient Express, of Victor. Their set list included covers of Cee Lo Green and Adele.
