Lady Justice is ready to come home.

The 14-foot aluminum  statue that sits atop the Ontario County Courthouse in Canandaigua, is scheduled to be elevated back to its perch at 7 a.m. Saturday. The statue was removed Aug. 18 by crews from Canandaigua-based Klug Crane Co., Farmington-based Sanford Industries and Ontario County. The statue was removed for a makeover — it had last been refurbished in 1983 and the statue’s golden shine was starting to turn gray.

Aside from restoring Lady Justice’s gold leaf surface, the $90,000 project will also renovate the cupola and dome area where the statue sits, said William Wright, the county’s commissioner of public works, in a statement.

Parking is available in two lots behind the county office building, at 20 Ontario Street, for anyone who wishes to see Lady Justice’s return. The cranes will be set up on Court Street, between the county office building and the Courthouse. Court Street will be closed for the duration of the installation, Wright said.

Preparation to lift the statue up to the top of the courthouse will take some time, Wright added.

The 7 a.m. start time is weather permitting.
