Construction has begun on a new Vision Hyundai car dealership on Route 332, in the town of Canandaigua.

The new dealership will open at 2418 Route 332 — near Airport Road — and will be 22,000 square feet, said Vision Hyundai General Manager John Ventura. He added that the dealership will move from its current location at 2445 Route 332 to the new spot. The Kia Motors dealership at 2552 Route 332 will also relocate to the new location. The reason for the change was so the dealership could expand, Ventura said.

“We’re just bursting at the seams,” Ventura said. “There’s no room to build (at the current location).”
The target date to open the new store is June 1, but that depends on how much — or how little — the winter weather will affect construction.

It’s about a $3 million project, and the contractor is LeFrois Development from Henrietta, Ventura said.
The new dealership will be more than twice as big as the current one — which is 10,000 square feet.
The added space will allow Hyundai to hold more cars. Currently, the dealership has about 150 to 200 cars, Ventura estimated. That number will increase to about 350 to 400 vehicles. The dealership will also upgrade from six service bays to 15.

Once the new place is open, Vision Hyundai will look to expand it personnel as well, hiring about 10 additional employees, Ventura said.

While construction on the project has been underway for about two weeks, the project has been in the works for around two years, Ventura said. The process was slowed down partly because it required a wetlands permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Ventura said acquiring the permit took some time. The Ontario County Industrial Development Agency is currently in a similar situation, as they’re waiting on a wetlands permit for a portion of the project to expand the runway at the Canandaigua Airport.
