On Friday morning, Aug. 24, a man atttending a funeral at the Honeoye United Church of Christ at 8758 Main Street, was struck by a car and seriously injured. He was pronounced dead in the afternoon.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, James Marlow, 67, of 9271 Big Tree Road, Hemlock, had just crossed Main Street (Route 20A) from the north to the south at 11:26 a.m. and was still standing in the road near his parked vehicle when he was struck by an eastbound Honda Civic driven by Benjamin T. Matteson, 20, of 4 White Poplar Park, Honeoye.

Mr. Marlow was transported by Honeoye Ambulance to F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, where he was pronounced dead at 12:37 p.m. Matteson was not injured.

Parts of Route 20A in Honeoye were closed for three hours while the Sheriff's Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the accident. The Honeoye Fire Department and Livonia Ambulance assisted at the scene.

According to the sheriff's office, the investigation is continuing, though at this point the cause appears to be pedestrian error: Mr. Marlow's being in the road. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Inv. Christopher Drake at (800) 394-4560.
