If you haven't noticed, basketball has been somewhat of a go-to blog topic for me in the winter months. Is basketball my favorite sport? For the longest time, it wasn't even close. So why all the photos? There is something beautiful about the game -- Especially at the college level. It wasn't until I started taking photos of the game on a regular basis that I realized how incredibly fast paced, intense and physical the game can be. It is a game of constant movement, deception and intellect that requires immense concentration and flawless execution if you want to be successful. Some of my best sports photos have come from basketball games. Here are some facts that you may not know about the game!
- The YMCA is credited with inventing Basketball in the 1800's
- The game became an Olympic Sport in 1936 in Berlin, Germany.
- The most points ever scored by an NBA player is 38,387 by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
- The first attempt to create a major professional basketball league was in 1925 with the founding of the American Basketball League. Our very own Rochester NY had a team in the league - The Rochester Centrals. The league ceased operation in 1955.
