12th annual Polar Plunge: Braving the icy waters

A man holds his arms out after plunging into the 35 degree lake water Sunday Afternoon at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte. The 12th annual Polar Bear Plunge hosted over 1500 people from around the country and world.

Hundreds of participants navigated their way through the icy water of Lake Ontario during the 12th Annual Polar Bear Plunge held at Ontario Beach Park. Over 1500 people participated in the event that is in its 12th year. Chunks of ice blocking off the entrance to the plunging area had to be removed prior to the start of the event.
