Eight veterans of World War II — all residents of Legacy at the Fairways in Victor — were recognized recently by representatives of Honor Flight Rochester. Elaine Fahselt and C.P. Maloney visited the senior living community on Thursday, Sept. 20, to honor and personally thank the veterans for their sacrifice.

“Each one of our veterans honored spoke about their time in the service,” said Wendy Cama, Legacy Lifestyle Director. “It was a wonderful time of thankfulness on our part and great humility on our veterans part.”

For John Brackett, who served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947, it was an opportunity to remember.

“It brings back a lot of memories,” said Brackett. “I got to meet a lot of people and made many friends. It’s kind of hard to describe how you feel. You remember all the good things that have transpired, and the nice people you have met, and how it impacted your life and your family.”

Honorees were each presented with an Honor Flight cap, lapel pin and a beautiful book, “Jewel of the Mall,” about the World War II Memorial in Washington. Images from the book can be seen at www.jewelofthemall.com/
