Paychex, Inc. founder Tom Golisano was awarded close to $150,000 Friday in Ontario County Court based on four years of over-assessment on his former Victor home, said Golisano’s attorney Glenn Pezzulo.

“I’m very pleased with the outcome, it is a victory for all taxpayers,” Pezzulo said. “It is unfortunate that there are so many taxpayers who don’t have the abilities to protest because of financial reasons.”

Golisano also appeared in court Thursday disputing the assessment of the home located at 1648 Malone Road, in Victor. He was seeking a total of $197,256.28 as return payments for over assessment.

The property includes both a 16-acre parcel where the house stands, and a 20-acre vacant lot. The property sold for slightly over $1.3 million on Feb. 23. It also includes a four-car garage, a four-car carriage barn designed to be able to work on race car, and a swimming pool.

In 2011, the Town of Victor assessed the property at $2.329 million; however, Judge Frederick Reed ruled the correct assessment as $1,309,500, Pezzulo said. There was a large difference in the town’s assessment and the ruling for the other three years since 2008 as well.

In 2008, the town assessed the property at $3.479 million, whereas Reed's ruling was $1.94 million; in 2009 it was $2.829 million for the town and the ruling was $1.740. Pezzulo added that the town assessed the property at $2.329 million in 2010 and the ruling in court was $1.74 million.
