Just one week after a standing autumnal tradition in Victor — the Oct. 20 Jack 'O Lantern Trail — a second celebration is planned for all ages.
A Halloween party and “trunk or treat” event, hosted by Victor Parks and Recreation, will be held at Victor Municipal Park, 6680 Paparone Drive, Victor, on Saturday, Oct, 27, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
“I had heard of these for the past few years,” said Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Mike Stockman. “I and attended St. John’s Lutheran Trunk or Treat last year, and it was great. This year we have asked all of the local churches to spread the word, too.”
Families, groups and individuals are invited to decorate their vehicles, dress in family-friendly costumes, and distribute treats out of their trunks. Children will trick or treat from vehicle to vehicle in the parking lot. Prizes will be awarded for best decorated car and theme.
“We really encourage people to bring their cars to decorate,” said Stockman. “The winner will be in the paper and perhaps on the cover of next year’s parks and recreation brochure.”
Stockman also encouraged participants to make sure the treats they bring are pre-wrapped candy and safe for children of all ages.
“We will have staff and volunteers supervising the event,” said Stockman, “as well as all of the watchful eyes of the parents to make sure everyone has some great and spooky fun.”
While activity is going on in the parking lot, the James Cook American Legion Post 931 will host a Halloween party in the new lodge, complete with pizza, drinks, and all kinds of fun and games.
“At parks and recreation we are happy to provide great family events,” said Stockman. “Halloween is a fun holiday that is attractive to all ages. We are looking forward decorating our passenger van too, and can’t wait (to show it off)! In addition, (the whole staff) is getting dressed up in costumes.”
On Oct. 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. the annual Jack o’ Lantern Trail will be held at Fireman's Field, off Maple Ave. in Victor.
