It was an evening every veteran should get to enjoy at least once a year. This time it was former  servicemen and women of Victor and Farmington who were treated to a free gourmet dinner and night of gratitude from their comrades and community.

In keeping with this year’s bicentennial celebration, the Town of Victor in partnership with the James Cooke American Legion Post 931 honored more than 90 veterans and guests at a special bicentennial dinner on Nov. 10 at Ravenwood Golf Club.

Servicemen and women from various generations and branches of the military gathered for a social hour and meal. Guest speaker Lewis Fisher gave a keynote address called “Victor at Peace and War,” stirring memories for veterans of various eras. The Victor native and historian is now a publisher in San Antonio, Texas.

Special honors were given to Curt Colyer, Marvin Hogan, and Howard D. Johnston for having more than 50 years of continuous membership in the James Cooke American Legion Post 931. Exceeding those impressive records, with more than 60 years of continuous membership, were John Abraham and Thomas Erdman.

A brief P.O.W./M.I.A. ceremony led by Ken Winkler gave guests a moment to remember prisoners of war and those missing in action.

In addition to a moving program and gourmet meal, veterans had a chance to win raffle prizes, including bottles of wine from New York vintners.
