Event highlights

1. The fun will start on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m. with carnival rides, food, refreshments and games. The Coors Light Girls will greet guests throughout the evening. The County Rope Rescue Team will demonstrate its skills, rappelling 100-foot drops. Paul Cummings and the Cross Roads Project will entertain from 7 to 11 p.m. in the music tent.


2. On Friday, the grounds open at 4 p.m. for dinner, including the Ladies’ Auxiliary fish fry. The firemen’s parade kicks off at 6:45 p.m., with bands from Fairport and Marion, the Savannah Cellar Savers, Towpath and Renegades Fife and Drum Corps, Victor High School Band and the crowd favorite, Island Band. Following the parade, Dan Frank and the True Believers will play from 9 p.m. to midnight in the music tent.


3. On Saturday, the carnival opens at noon with the Kids Costume Parade and prizes for all participants. The Strutters Dixieland Band will lead off the parade, performing until 3 p.m. on the grounds.
A chicken barbecue is set for noon, and includes corn, potatoes, coleslaw, roll and beverage. Families can pay one price and ride all the rides as often as they wish from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The canine unit will be on hand, and Operation Safechild will issue IDs and do fingerprinting. On Saturday evening, DILF will entertain from 8 until closing. A patriotic fireworks show is scheduled at 10 p.m.

The 63rd annual Firemen’s Carnival and Parade promises to light up Pumpkin Hook once again with rides, barbecues, concerts and parades. The usually quiet hamlet will be flooded with carnival-goers, fire trucks, marching bands and antique tractors for the three-day event.
