In the news: A monkey that was on the lam for more than three years in Tampa, Fla., and reportedly attacked at least one person has finally been captured. The “Mystery Monkey” is a rhesus macaque monkey that officials believe escaped from a “small colony of monkeys" that live in Silver Springs, Fla. The monkey became a celebrity of sorts and even had his own Facebook page.

Happening today: Among the new movies opening today are the much-anticipated “Cloud Atlas,” an R-rated three-director effort starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant and Hugo Weaving; “Chasing Mavericks,” a PG drama starring Jonny Weston, Gerard Butler and Elisabeth Shue; and “Silent Hill: Revelation 3D,” an R horror flick.

Gas update: GasBuddy.com reports that the highest state prices in the continental U.S. are in Connecticut ($3.916), New York ($3.931) and California ($4.252).
